The WA Youth Awards were established in 1999 to recognise young Western Australians aged 10 to 25 years for their achievements and contributions to the community. The Awards also reward outstanding youth groups and organisations that serve and support the state’s young people.

In 2023, we look forward to shining a light on young Western Australians, youth workers and our youth sector. Some areas that people can be nominated for include community leadership, innovation, advocacy and the arts.

Nominations are available in the following categories:

  • Commissioner for Children and Young People Participate Award
  • Mercy Care Positive Achievement Award
  • ECU Community Leadership Award
  • Minister for Youth’s Most Outstanding Youth Worker Award
  • Perth Festival Creative Contribution Award
  • The Y WA Collective Action Award
  • Youth Focus Sector Collaboration Award
  • Youth Futures Innovation for a Sustainable Future Award
  • Mission Australia Young Changemaker Award
  • The Charmaine Dragun Memorial Award

Category winners receive a $1,000 prize and receive Annual membership to the Perth Festival Benefits Program as well as a 6-pack of film tickets to the Perth festival each. Finalists for the Perth Festival Creative Contribution Award will have the opportunity to take part in a creative development workshop with Perth Festival staff.

The WA Young Person of the Year award will be selected from the above categories, which honour individuals.  The WA Young Person of the Year will receive a $10,000 travel bursary to participate in youth-related events and activities across WA.

The WA Youth Awards take place on Friday 27 October at the WA Museum Boola Bardip.

Come along to celebrate the accomplishments of our state’s young people and the youth sector that supports them at a gala dinner, in the historic Hackett Hall at the WA Museum Boola Bardip.
