Establishing and running a successful Youth Advisory Group
Target audience

    Staff from organisations that are looking to set up a Youth Advisory Group (YAG) or want to improve the group that they currently run.
Overview This workshop is designed to have youth and community sector worker develop a strong understanding of best-practice youth advisory group work and how to put this into practice. In this workshop, attendees will learn:
  • What a Youth Advisory Group is and the different reasons that motivate young people to join
  • How to recruit and attract a diversity of young people to their group
  • How to explore the skills of the young people involved, as well as maximise and develop those skills
  • What makes a great Youth Advisory Group and pitfalls to avoid
  • Strategies for embedding decision making within the organisation
  • This is a highly interactive workshop, with group activities and discussions. Attendees will also have the opportunity to ask questions of young people that have been part of Youth Advisory Groups.
