Banksia Hill is Western Australia’s only youth detention centre. Housing over 170 young people aged as young as ten, it is also an ongoing human rights issue unfolding right now in Perth’s own backyard.
Urgent reform is needed in youth justice, but where? Beyond instability at Banksia Hill, we have to grapple with high rates of recidivism, the unfair representation of Aboriginal young people in the system, and the low standard of education, health and mental health services provided for those in the justice system who need them most.
Western Australia has one of the strongest youth sectors in the world, passionate workers, and a bucket load of ideas. We want to make things better for the young people in our justice system.
We want you to help us.
